Chapter 3946 MU: The Superbody Incident (Twenty-Six)
The main universe's Batman led everyone to the Justice League headquarters, also known as the Hall of Justice. Although some of the Seven Lamps' power had been used to build a magical defense network, a considerable amount remained. The enormous furnace was moved to the eastern rotunda, and even through several walls, the astonishing energy fluctuations emanating from it could be felt.
As soon as they stepped into the main hall of the Hall of Justice, all the magicians looked in that direction.
"What's going on over there?" someone asked.
"It must be another pillar of the defense network, right?" another person speculated. "Otherwise, how could there be such obvious energy fluctuations?"
“No,” Constantine said, gazing in that direction, “this is different from the way the pillar’s energy fluctuates. It seems Batman has gained quite a bit from his cosmic journey.”
“I always felt this energy was a bit strange,” the Dark Master said, frowning. “It’s different from the magical energy I usually encounter; it has a very strong…personality?”
“Because this isn’t magical energy,” Green Lantern said. “It’s the power of the emotional spectrum, just like magical energy. It’s a universal force, but because of subtle differences in its properties, it manifests in different states and has more magical effects.”
“I can definitely read something in it,” Zatanna said, closing her eyes as if meditating. “Steadfastness, compassion, anger, greed… these things are mixed together, giving me a very complex feeling. It’s like…”
Zatanna stopped talking at this point. She slowly walked in that direction. The main universe's Batman watched her retreating figure, took a step forward to stop her, but after thinking for a moment, stopped.
The sorcerers eventually arrived at the rotunda and saw the furnace overflowing with energy. They were all stunned, and their expressions toward Batman were somewhat complicated.
"If you had told me earlier that you were this capable, why would we have been wandering around? We could have unanimously elected you as the new Sorcerer Supreme!"
Strange stared thoughtfully at the furnace. The main universe's Batman looked at him, and Strange shook his head, saying, "This power is completely different from the magical energy of my universe. Although the magical energy of my universe also has various attributes, such as ice, fire, light, and darkness, those are all natural and rational. But the energy you obtained is full of a kind of...life force."
"vitality?"
"Yes, it seems to represent the most important part of intelligent life in the universe, very close to God."
The main universe's Batman began to ponder. In his previous discussions with the mechanical Batman, he had come to understand that God was an emotional being, and therefore all life in the universe aimed to evolve emotions as their ultimate goal, because this would bring them closer to God.
Emotions are supposed to be something intangible, but here they are a tangible force. The emotional spectrum is a manifestation of emotions, which makes the process of intelligent life transforming the universe driven by emotions clearer and more concrete, turning an abstract process into something real.
If that's the case, could we say that the emotional spectrum is the connection between countless intelligent beings with emotions and the emotional being God?
What they have in common is concrete energy. Besides serving as energy, does this energy have any other uses?
The Batman of the main universe stopped his contemplation there. Because, he knew very little about either the origin of the universe or God. He began to regret not paying more attention in his cosmology classes at magic school.
Looking back now, Lucifer's seemingly nonsensical teachings may very well have contained cosmic truths, only no one at the time could comprehend them. Even if he were to repeat them again, Batman probably wouldn't understand. This is the difference in their life level compared to the universe's administrators, like lower-dimensional beings can never understand higher-dimensional beings, like humans being unable to comprehend a line on a piece of paper.
The wizards, however, had already begun their discussion. Their approach was more emotional than Batman's rational analysis. But this offered a different perspective—more abstract, more philosophical, seemingly fantastical, yet not necessarily wrong.
"As you can see, during the previous cosmic war, I accidentally acquired some special energy. The race that possesses this energy calls it the 'Seven Lanterns Power,' also known as the Emotional Spectrum Power. Now, Green Lantern will introduce the Emotional Spectrum to you..."
The main universe's Batman glanced at Green Lantern. Green Lantern had no choice but to step forward, clear his throat, and give a brief introduction to the Lantern Brigade and the Lantern Ring. Logically speaking, the Lantern Brigade and sorcerers are not closely related; they don't understand each other and cannot use each other's energy—at least that was the case before Oa was conquered.
In the universe, who becomes a Lantern Knight is decided by the Blue Men. Only they can decide who the ring will fly to, although there are those who forcibly take it, but they are few and far between. Some Blue Men also use automated programs to assign rings, but if they find the target unsuitable, they can take the ring back.
For millennia, apart from the yellow light, no emotional spectrum power has leaked out; it has remained firmly in the hands of the little blue man. Therefore, all races in the universe have tacitly agreed that this is a special power that cannot be used by anyone other than the Lantern Man.
However, after the Apokolips Legion landed on Oa, the power created by Batman in the main universe proved that any sentient being with feelings can use the power of the emotional spectrum, and the little blue man was just a cunning middleman.
Therefore, this power is essentially no different from magical power. Lanternmen can use it, and so can magicians; perhaps it's just that they prefer to use it in different ways.
Batman from the main universe made this conjecture after Green Lantern, which immediately sparked a discussion among the wizards. Some of them knew Green Lantern and knew that Green Lanterns were essentially just ordinary workers who had to obey the Legion's orders in everything, even the greatest Green Lantern, Alan.
So even though the Lanterns are very powerful, the magicians have never set their sights on them. Gaining power at the cost of freedom is unacceptable; those demons only want their souls after death, at least they can move freely while alive.
Now, hearing from the main universe's Batman that they could freely use these powers without going through the Lanterns, they immediately became excited. Leaving aside how powerful the Lanterns are, the sheer amount of power in this furnace is outrageous; even getting a tiny bit would be incredibly wealthy.
Suddenly, their gaze towards the main universe's Batman changed. If it was initially tinged with anger and resentment, now it was like seeing a money tree and a hot commodity.
Master Darkness was a good man; his first thought was how to use this energy to strengthen Earth's defenses. He looked at Batman and said, "Are you planning to use all this energy on the magical defense network? Or do you want to build some new protective system? Or a weapon?"
“That’s more than enough,” the main universe Batman said, “and if nothing unexpected happens, it will be replenished continuously. It’s a sustainable energy source.”
The others looked at him with some surprise, including the members of the Justice League. Only Green Lantern knew a little about the inside story.
Just as the Blue Man intercepted the power of the Seven Lamps, Batman and Darkseid could easily do the same. Darkseid's Apocalypse Realm isn't lacking in energy; he mainly wants these powers to study the essence of the universe through the Emotional Spectrum. He can't take much, so it's mostly going to benefit Batman. This was also the condition they agreed upon initially.
Batman cares far more about cosmic security than the Blue Man, so naturally he wouldn't exploit resources to the point of exhaustion. But thanks to the Blue Man's sustainable resource extraction, their equipment is powerful enough that even a small amount is quite considerable.
The wizards were even more excited. If it weren't a one-off deal, Batman wouldn't have been so stingy; he might have actually shared some with them for research.
Facing the gleaming eyes below, the main universe Batman simply said calmly, "I plan to build several laboratories around the Ministry of Magic. In addition to maintaining the magical defense network on a daily basis, we will also conduct research on the emotional spectrum and other magical research. I believe that you all have experience in this area. Now you can think about what areas you are good at, and you can join us directly when the time comes."
"Of course, you can leave at any time if you don't want to do research here. However, because the power of the emotional spectrum is too strong, there are safety risks in conducting research elsewhere, so the energy cannot be taken away. Alright, those who want to leave can go now."
Everyone looked at each other, but no one moved. Although clocking in and out for work here was a bit boring, energy was key; without energy, staying outside was just like being a homeless person.
But they had other problems to face. One of the magicians raised his hand and said, "What about our creditors?"
Most of them were already skilled magicians, adept at making deals with the devil. Some had not only sold their hearts, livers, spleens, lungs, and kidneys, but even their souls had been sold multiple times, leaving them with over a dozen creditors. They maintained regular contact, so if they suddenly lost touch, wouldn't all the creditors come knocking on their door to collect their debts?
"I have no idea what you're all afraid of," Strange scoffed. "How many of your creditors are stronger than the demon we fought today? If they're weaker, just chop them up. If they're stronger, then call a few more people and chop them up too. If you really can't kill them, just write down their addresses and go get revenge when you've trained harder. Isn't that enough?"
Judging from his practiced manner, the Justice League members knew that his method of obtaining energy in his original universe must have been rather uncivilized. But magic, after all, is all about might makes right; otherwise, how could the devil ride roughshod over humans? This kind of thing can't be too civilized.
The mages began to whisper among themselves again. At this moment, Constantine spoke up: "I don't doubt that our current setup can defeat those demons, but if too many creditors come knocking at once, it will not only needlessly deplete the energy of the magic defense network, but it will also keep us busy dealing with them, and we won't even have a place to put the energy we collect. In short, we don't have such a complete magic system here, and this kind of thing can't be built in a day or two."
“Then you can go to my universe for training in batches,” Strange said. “That way, the creditors won’t be able to find you or launch a full-scale attack, and you can also learn how to operate magic.”
“That’s a good idea,” Zatanna nodded. “I’ve been curious about magic schools for a long time. But there’s a problem: the magic here is different from yours. Will we really be able to learn anything?”
