Chapter 3918 The Nameless Bat (Eighty-Eight)
Some of the Batman members had heard the name, some had seen her in person, and some had even witnessed Scarlet Witch in action. Of course, there were also a few who were completely ignorant and had no idea who she was. They had no choice but to exchange information first.
“You guys should know about mutants,” Batman the Adventurer took on the responsibility, saying, “They’re a type of genetically mutated human from the next world. Scarlet Witch is one of the most powerful members. The Scarlet Power she possesses is a primordial power of the universe, related to the chaos of the universe, but not exactly the same; it’s a power unique to her.”
"This power is very magical. You can think of it as the power of creation. It can make anything you want to happen. In other words, she can do anything she wants."
"I've heard superheroes from the other world say that many Wandas from different universes have used their willpower to distort reality, or even create a completely different reality. It's a power comparable to God."
"I was fortunate enough to witness this lady's attack in a dungeon where power was not restricted. She made almost no unnecessary movements, simply frowned, and uttered a sentence, and reality was completely altered. The enemy vanished as if they had never existed. Obviously, this is astonishing, as well as mysterious and profound. I think it's perfectly normal that electronic life forms cannot defeat her, because this method of combat is clearly illogical, and no logical being can break through it."
The Batmen began to whisper among themselves again. Most of them believed that Scarlet Witch was one of the strongest characters in Marvel, far surpassing the Avengers. The cybernetic lifeforms had really messed with her.
“And her husband,” Batman paused before continuing, “the husband of Wanda that I met was Vision, who seems to be an artificial being. He doesn’t know exactly who created him, but he’s not as powerful as his wife.”
“That doesn’t make sense,” Batman said, arms crossed and brows furrowed. “Our initial theory was that Scarlet Witch’s husband was a cybernetic lifeform who happened to beat up the mastermind. But if Vision is just an android and has nothing to do with cybernetic lifeforms, how could he make a cybernetic lifeform fall for Shanks?”
“I think I know,” Arkham Batman said. “The husband of the cosmic Scarlet Witch Wanda is not Vision, but Jarvis.”
"Jarvis?" Many Batmen didn't immediately recognize the name. But they quickly realized it was the name of Iron Man's electronic butler, inspired by the old butler who raised Iron Man, much like Alfred.
“That’s right,” Batman Arkham nodded and said, “It’s the universe where that magic school is located. There’s a professor named Jarvis, do you remember him?”
Batman, who had been to magic school, immediately remembered. It's not that they had bad memories; the key is that there are too many duplicate English names. It's perfectly normal for a professor and an electronic butler to share the same name, and these two positions sound completely unrelated, so no one would guess that they are the same person.
"You mean, that Professor Jarvis we met at the magic school was Tony Stark's electronic butler? But how did he end up being a professor at a magic school?"
“Don’t forget, the Iron Man in that universe also used a magical core,” Arkham Batman said. “My technique for compressing magical energy was inspired by him. And I’ve heard that he could ascend to become the Iron Demon, so it can’t be said that it’s completely unrelated to magic.”
The Batmen suddenly realized. That made sense. In the universe where that magic school was located, almost everyone knew magic. Although Iron Man was still called Iron Man, he was actually a magician, just that he followed the path of magical machinery. So it wasn't surprising that his butler knew magic.
"How powerful is Jarvis from that universe?" the main universe Batman asked. Although he had seen Jarvis at school, he had never interacted with him, probably because the other party looked ordinary, like a real human, and did not reveal much of the characteristics of electronic life. Therefore, the main universe Batman had not investigated him.
“Very powerful,” Batman Arkham said. “You remember that universe’s magic defense network, right? Jarvis was in charge of monitoring the flow of traffic on the magic defense network. No matter how much power the various Daedric Lords flowed into or out of Earth, it couldn’t escape his eyes.”
"That's very strange. The electronic lifeforms causing trouble here seem to be completely immune to magic. How did Jarvis manage to do that?"
“This is exactly what we suspected,” Batwoman said. “It’s because Jarvis has powers that the mastermind doesn’t have that he was able to defeat it so easily and show it a near-perfect life form, which made it want to imitate him.”
“I think we’ve got one thing wrong,” said the mechanical Batman. “Wanda from that universe may have inspired Jarvis, but not emotionally, but rather in terms of power.”
"How to say?"
“As I said before, electronic life forms are logical beings. In any case, their foundation is rigorous logic, which makes them far removed from mysticism and completely incapable of understanding any kind of wish-granting magic. But Jarvis from that universe happens to know it. Do you think it's possible that the Scarlet Witch taught him?”
"But you also said that electronic life forms cannot understand magic. Can it be taught?"
"Others might not be able to, but don't forget, the Scarlet Witch's power is to alter reality. If she can teach Jarvis, then Jarvis can naturally learn. However, I think the premise is that Jarvis himself is already very close to a perfect life form. He is not just an electronic life form, but an electronic life form with emotions. His humanity and higher-level abstract algorithms help him understand magic."
“At present, this may be the closest speculation to the truth,” said the Batman of the main universe. “The mastermind encountered Jarvis from that universe, only to find that Jarvis possessed magic that electronic life could not possibly control, and was defeated by him. After much reflection, it concluded that the Scarlet Witch might have altered reality, giving Jarvis such power, so it went to the Scarlet Witch, wanting to obtain this power through her, but was refused. Then it went to other universes, but was also refused and defeated, and angered the Scarlet Witch of the multiverse, so it had no choice but to slink back to our side.”
“But that’s where the problem lies,” Batwoman said. “It should know perfectly well that Scarlet Witch’s power doesn’t come from her red hair, so there’s no point in it looking for a red-haired woman here. Why is it doing this?”
"Is it really useless?" the mechanical Batman said. "Of the red-haired women we know, Barbara is a top hacker and might be able to help him fix some errors in the program; Poison Ivy possesses the power of the Green of All Things, which is also a primordial power of the universe; Black Widow comes from another universe and might know a lot about it, and she herself once possessed a very rare idealism. They are all actually very strong, aren't they?"
"You're not suggesting it's trying to create a Scarlet Witch like Wanda, are you?" Batwoman said, somewhat incredulously. "But even all of them combined still aren't strong enough..."
“There may be some targets we don’t know about,” the main universe Batman said. “The problem now is that we don’t know how many disaster universes there are, because not all Batmen are on our side. There are more who haven’t come than who have.”
The group exchanged glances, realizing that the Batman from the main universe was right. Most of those present were staunchly righteous Batmen; neither the evil nor neutral factions were there. The sheer number of these Batmen outnumbered them, proving that many universes existed beyond their comprehension. Perhaps in one universe, a powerful red-haired woman had her pure strength collected by a mastermind.
Clearly, the mastermind behind this is trying to compensate for a lack of quality with quantity, playing a game of synthesizing a giant watermelon. They're grabbing a capable fighter from one universe, a fanatical one from another, and someone from yet another who can understand them, attempting to piece together their ideal lover—a carbon copy of the Scarlet Witch.
"Can this really succeed?" Batwoman couldn't help but ask.
"It's hard to say. I know you'll find this absurd, but there's actually a certain probability of success. Because electronic life itself is built from a pile of errors, and these errors are coincidences. If some external factor were to stir things up in this pile of errors, causing one error to collide with another and spark a connection, it could develop emotions. And if some extremely powerful being were to give it a push, it might actually become a perfect life form."
The main universe's Batman couldn't help but sigh. All Batmen felt a headache coming on because Batmen themselves leaned towards logic; they didn't like the occult, and even less so words like "coincidence" or "just so," and were also somewhat involved with human-machine interaction.
However, the universe is chaotic and unpredictable; any two factors colliding can spark a conflict. No one can guarantee anything about these probabilistic events; what is theoretically impossible may become possible, and what is theoretically possible may become impossible. But even with the slightest chance, they must find a way to prevent it.
It's foolish to place your hopes on others. While the cyborg Batman says that once cybernetic life forms develop emotions, they become lethargic, that's just his opinion. If this mastermind develops emotions, gains power, and becomes even more insane, the multiverse will be doomed; they can't afford to take that risk.
“There’s another question,” Arkham Batman added, “why does this cyber life form call itself Brainiac?”
“This proves that it must have encountered Brainiac from some universe,” the mechanical Batman said. “That’s quite normal. If it came here, it must have landed in some universe first. Like fish looking for fish and shrimp looking for shrimp, electronic life forms would also be more inclined to search for electronic life forms, and it might have encountered Brainiac in the process of searching.”
"Those two fought?"
“They will definitely clash. There are no alliances between electronic life forms; they only want to turn each other into their own subsystems. So, whenever they meet, they will definitely fight.”
"Could this mastermind be someone who hasn't fought before?"
“That seems to be the case,” the mechanical Batman said, sounding somewhat serious. “However, based on what I know of Brainiac, he shouldn’t be able to defeat this mastermind. Brainiac’s computing power is strong, but his code is rather old, while this mastermind who can cause trouble across the multiverse is more than an order of magnitude stronger than him.”
“That means there’s a very powerful Brainiac in the multiverse,” Batwoman said. “Now, besides the mastermind, we also have to be wary of a super Brainiac. We really need to clean up the multiverse.”
