Chapter 254: Shen Xing’s Envy!
Chapter 254: Shen Xing’s Envy!
Alongside it were several plates of snacks that looked handmade rather than purchased from outside.
Shen Xing placed everything on the table.
"Please help yourselves."
Su Mo didn’t stand on ceremony. He picked up a teacup and took a sip.
The warm tea washed away some of the lingering chill from the Frostspine Mountains.
Then Shen Xing suddenly sighed.
"You two really chose the worst possible time to visit the sect."
Su Mo paused midway through reaching for a snack.
"Is it because of the Pishachas?"
Shen Xing looked surprised, "You encountered them?"
"We did."
Yang Qingxi answered calmly.
Shen Xing immediately understood why Elder Song had personally gone to receive them.
Under the current circumstances, letting outsiders wander through the mountains alone was indeed dangerous.
She rubbed her forehead helplessly.
"Then you already know part of the problem."
Normally, her mood would’ve improved after having guests. As they could chat with her to relieve her boredom.
However, the recent situation within the sect was making it difficult for anyone to relax.
"The strange thing is that this shouldn’t be happening."
Su Mo became interested.
"What do you mean?"
Shen Xing leaned back in her chair.
"Every year around this season, Pishacha activity decreases significantly. It is almost like they enter a dormant period. The patrol teams become less busy, and the pressure on the sect eases somewhat."
She shook her head.
"But this year is completely different."
"Instead of becoming quieter, the Pishachas have become more active than ever."
"The number of sightings has increased dramatically over the past week. Patrol teams are encountering them constantly. Some areas that were previously safe have suddenly become dangerous."
Yang Qingxi’s brows furrowed slightly.
"Do the elders know the reason?"
"If they did, everyone would be sleeping much better at night."
A bitter smile appeared on Shen Xing’s face.
"The Sect Hall has been investigating for days. Unfortunately, they haven’t found anything yet."
The room became quiet for a moment.
Su Mo and Yang Qingxi exchanged a glance.
The situation sounded even more troublesome than they initially expected. Then Shen Xing spoke again.
"Actually, there is another problem."
"What problem?" Su Mo asked.
"The invasion."
Her expression became serious.
"After something like this had happened, the sect will most likely enter an isolation period."
The words immediately caught both Su Mo’s and Yang Qingxi’s attention.
"Isolation?" they asked almost simultaneously.
Shen Xing nodded.
"All entrances and exits will likely be placed under strict supervision. Visitors won’t be allowed to leave freely until the elders determine whether the invasion was an isolated incident or part of a bigger conspiracy."
A headache immediately appeared in Su Mo’s mind.
Their original plan had been simple.
Find Ye Chen.
Confirm her situation.
Abduct her, then leave.
Now it seemed fate had other ideas.
Yang Qingxi quietly picked up her teacup.
Although her expression remained calm, she was already reconsidering their plans.
If White Moon Sect truly entered lockdown, finding Ye Chen would become more complicated.
Across from them, Shen Xing remained unaware of their thoughts. She assumed the two visitors were worried about being stranded.
"Don’t worry too much," she said reassuringly. "Even if the sect enters isolation, guests won’t be treated badly. You can stay here peacefully."
Su Mo smiled politely.
"That’s good to hear."
However, inwardly, both he and Yang Qingxi were thinking the same thing.
It seemed finding Ye Chen had suddenly become much more urgent.
Thinking this, Yang Qingxi immediately tried to probe for more information.
"Does White Moon Sect have other guests as well? Or are we the only ones who arrived during such a tense period?"
The moment the question was asked, Shen Xing’s expression became somewhat strange.
"There is one more."
"Oh?" Yang Qingxi leaned forward slightly. "Another visitor?"
Shen Xing nodded. "A girl arrived a few days ago."
Su Mo’s eyes immediately lit up.
[It must be Ye Chen.]
[Oh, right, she is using the alias of Ye Ling.]
Yang Qingxi naturally heard every one of those thoughts.
She maintained her composure and continued asking naturally.
"She must be quite strong if she managed to travel here alone."
"Strong?"
Shen Xing’s lips twitched. Then she let out a cold laugh.
"Not at all. She was just lucky."
After a brief pause, she added through gritted teeth.
"Actually, she’s way too lucky."
Su Mo and Yang Qingxi exchanged a subtle glance.
That reaction was already suspicious. Something must have happened between them.
Before they could ask further, Shen Xing dropped another bombshell.
"Now she’s become the Sect Master’s personal disciple."
The teacup in Su Mo’s hand almost slipped. His expression froze.
Yang Qingxi’s eyelids twitched.
Both of them felt a little confused.
Hadn’t Ye Chen lost most of her luck?
Even after all that, she still managed to jump directly to the Sect Master’s personal disciple?
What was this? Heaven’s secret support.
Was this thing called luck really that unreasonable?
"Personal disciple?" Su Mo asked in surprise. "Your Sect Master is quite generous. Taking in an outsider immediately... she must possess extraordinary talent."
"Talent?"
Shen Xing sneered.
However, she didn’t continue.
Instead, she picked up her teacup and took a sip.
"Forget it. I don’t want to talk about her."
Seeing her attitude, Su Mo immediately understood.
There was definitely a story behind this.
Unfortunately, digging deeper right now would be too suspicious.
Thus, he wisely changed the subject.
Unexpectedly, Shen Xing was the one who became curious.
"Actually, there’s something I’ve been wondering."
She looked between the two of them.
"You don’t seem very familiar with that old hag."
"How are you acquainted with Elder Song?"
The fact that they didn’t even know Song Meilin’s age had already exposed them.
Yang Qingxi calmly replied.
"My mother is friends with her."
"We happened to be travelling, so my mother helped us contact Sister Song."
"I see." Shen Xing nodded. The explanation made sense. Then a trace of envy appeared in her eyes.
"You two must have visited many places, right?"
