Chapter 342 - 340: Deported Back to the Village With Public Notification, the Abominable Relatives Break Down on the Spot!
The phone receiver was clicked back onto the black bakelite desk phone by the guard.
This crisp collision sound became the final straw that broke the Qin family’s back.
Director Sun picked up the chipped enamel mug on the desk and heavily banged it onto the old newspapers spread across the tabletop. Tea splashed out, soaking the bold typeface on the newspapers.
"Did you all hear clearly?" Director Sun looked down at the three people sprawled on the ground, his finger tapping the desk, "Lazy, sneaky, coming to the Military District compound to impersonate military family members, swagging and cheating! You’re destroying military-civilian relations and tarnishing the reputation of the troops under the red flag!"
Qin Jian Country was shaking all over, his lips trembled, unable to utter a word. Wang Guixiang covered her face, not daring to even wail loudly, her shoulders jerking violently.
The office door was pushed open, Security Division Director Li walked in with two officers in standard cotton uniforms.
Director Li glanced at Gu Zhen Guo, stood straight, and saluted formally. Then he turned around, waved his hand, "Take these three people to the Security Division’s interrogation room. Issue a joint investigation letter overnight, and first thing tomorrow morning, send them back to the Hongqi Commune, and hand them over to the local team for strict handling!"
The two officers immediately rushed forward.
Qin Jianjun tried to struggle, but an officer twisted his arms behind his back, kneed him, and pressed him down into the cement floor. His side face pressed against the rough ground, deforming it, and the oil stains at the corner of his mouth rubbed into the dirt.
"Go!" An officer picked Qin Jianjun up like he was carrying a chicks.
Qin Jian Country rolled and crawled, trying to hug Director Li’s leg, "Leader! Leader, be generous! We’ll never dare again!"
Director Li sidestepped, avoiding him, wrinkling his brow in disgust, "Take them away!"
Wang Guixiang had her arms lifted by another officer and was dragged outside. Her feet kicked wildly, a worn-out black cloth shoe flew off, hitting the door frame. Her socks were full of holes, and dragged two dusty lines on the ground.
The military wives watching outside immediately opened a wide path.
"Bah! What kind of people are they!" Aunt Zhang spat on the ground, "Coming to our compound like beggars, don’t even consider what kind of place this is!"
"Exactly, they deserve to be caught! Wanyi has always been such a good person, almost had her reputation ruined by these scoundrels." Li echoed loudly, with a half-finished shoe sole still in her hand.
A moment ago, Aunt Wang, who had been rather sarcastic in the crowd, had already tucked her neck and slipped back into her own hallway, disappearing from sight.
Gu Zhen Guo adjusted the hem of his uniform and nodded to Director Sun, "Director Sun, thank you and the committee members for your hard work today."
"Commander Gu, it’s polite of you to say so. This is our duty. This kind of unhealthy trend mustn’t be allowed to foster in the compound," Director Sun said sternly.
Gu Zhen Guo didn’t say more, turned with his family, and left. Gu Yanshen walked last, his tall figure blocking the cold wind blowing outside, keeping Lin Wan Yi safely shielded at his side.
Back to the Gu Family small building.
The warmth from the living room heater baked the air, dispersing the chill clinging to everyone’s clothes. The bedroom door was half-closed, Gu An and Gu Ning lay side by side in the crib, breathing steadily and sleeping soundly.
Qin Lan took off her coat and hung it on the hat rack, walked over to the sofa. She didn’t look at her husband, instead directly lifted Lin Wan Yi’s hand, pulling her to sit on the fabric sofa.
Warm yellow light spilled from the overhead chandelier.
Qin Lan’s withered hand covered Lin Wan Yi’s fair-skinned hand. The all-green bracelet on Lin Wan Yi’s wrist glowed with gentle light in the lamp, touching their overlapping skin.
Qin Lan reached out her other hand, held the jade bracelet, and nudged it slightly up Lin Wan Yi’s wrist, making it fit more securely.
"Today’s incident made you suffer," Qin Lan looked at the green tone, her voice carried unprecedented solemnity, "This bracelet was passed down to me by my mother-in-law years ago. Today, seeing your orderly and composed handling of issues, I know it’s fittingly worn on your hand."
Lin Wan Yi listened quietly.
"Jian Country’s family, like leeches, over the years I’ve always cared about that little blood relation, instead increasing their greed. Today your father-in-law severed this relationship, and my heart feels reassured." Qin Lan patted Lin Wan Yi’s hand, "Wanyi, I’ll entrust this home to you going forward, I feel at ease."
Lin Wan Yi reversed the hold on Qin Lan’s hand, her fingers tightened.
"Mom, we’re a family. No matter what storms blow outside, behind closed doors, we must live our lives properly." Her voice was gentle yet carried weight.
Standing by, Gu Zhen Guo picked up the white porcelain teacup on the table, drank a sip of warm water, and nodded in agreement.
It was nine o’clock in the evening, on the second-floor bedroom.
Outside the window, the snow fell heavily, hitting the glass with a soft rustling sound. Thick curtains drawn inside isolated the icy world outside.
Lin Wan Yi had just finished washing, wearing a cotton nightgown, sitting on the bed’s edge. The skin nurtured by spiritual spring water glowed with delicate porcelain-like luster under the dim lamp.
Gu Yanshen pushed the door and came in. He had removed his military coat, wearing only a military green shirt, two buttons undone at the neck, revealing strong collarbones.
He held a white enamel basin, a clean white towel draped over it. Steam rose from the hot water inside, blurring the sharp contour of his features.
He walked to the wooden basin stand, placed the basin down, submerged the towel into the hot water, lifted it, squeezing it dry.
Gu Yanshen came to the bed, kneeled on one knee.
"Hand over here." He looked up at her.
Lin Wan Yi obediently offered her right hand.
This afternoon she carried a full kettle of hot water, later worked in the kitchen for half a day, then knocked on the desk holding a pen in the office earlier, the inside of her wrist near the vein was rubbed out by the plastic handle, leaving a shallow red mark.
This red mark on her fair wrist was particularly noticeable.
Gu Yanshen’s rough fingertip avoided the red mark, supporting the back of her hand. He laid the steaming towel gently on her wrist.
The heat through the moist cotton, seeped bit by bit into the skin, soothing the muscle’s soreness.
The calluses from years of holding a gun sometimes grazed her skin, bringing a slight shiver.
"I’m sorry for your trouble." He lowered his head, focused on the towel, his voice hoarse.
She was raised with care, yet today had to personally deal with the scoundrels.
Lin Wan Yi looked at his broad shoulders, looked at his lowered eyelids. This man, called the "living Yama" outside, at this moment squatted before her, gingerly tending to the insignificant red mark.
She withdrew her hand.
The hot towel lost support, fell onto the soft blanket.
Gu Yanshen raised his head, before he could ask, Lin Wan Yi leaned forward.
She cupped his angular face with both hands, lowered her head, and kissed his lips without reservation.
