Chapter 301 - 160: The Ancients Said: A Day’s Plan Is Made in the Morning
Just as she stepped out of the recording studio, Song Xiaowei ran into the station’s deputy director.
He was a middle-aged man in his forties, wearing glasses.
He said, "Xiaosong, are you about to head home?"
"Yes." Seeing it was her superior, she couldn’t just walk away. She acknowledged him and asked, "Is there something you need, Director Bi?"
"I was just listening to your show."
Director Bi said, "That last caller was clearly hitting on you. In the future, you should just ignore listeners like that."
"It’s fine. As long as he’s happy."
Song Xiaowei smiled. "Director Bi, if there’s nothing else, I’ll be heading off now."
"Well, it’s so late, you must be hungry. Let me treat you to a late-night snack."
Director Bi continued, "Then I can drive you home. It’s not safe for a young woman like you to go home alone this late at night."
"Thank you, Director Bi, but there’s no need to trouble you."
Song Xiaowei politely refused. "I already have plans. Someone’s waiting for me downstairs."
With that, she turned and took the elevator down.
Director Bi stood there awkwardly, his expression sour. He paced over to the station’s recording studio.
A few other staff members were still cleaning up. When they saw him arrive, they all called out, "Director Bi."
"How were Xiaosong’s ratings tonight?"
Someone answered, "A bit better than yesterday. She gained a lot of new listeners."
"That’s right. Ever since Song Xiaowei joined, our station’s ratings have gone up a lot. We get more calls on the hotline during the interactive segments, too."
"Speaking of the hotline, what was with that last caller today?"
Director Bi said, clearly displeased, "Xiaosong is new, so she might not know how to handle it, but you’re all veterans. Don’t you know any better?
"You can’t let a classless listener like that keep talking to Xiaosong. You should have just cut the line and moved on to the next person."
"Director Bi, we were about to do that, but Song Xiaowei signaled to us that it was fine."
Someone defended themselves, "Besides, from the look on her face, she didn’t seem upset. In fact, she looked a little happy?"
"She was just forcing a smile! If it were you, and someone was hitting on you like that, would you be happy?"
Director Bi said irritably, "I don’t want something like this to happen again."
"Understood, Director Bi."
"Also, do you know why she was in such a hurry to leave just now?"
"She didn’t say."
A woman replied, "But from the look on her face, she was probably going to meet someone she likes."
"Someone she likes?"
"Mhm. A woman only gets that kind of expression when she’s going to see the man she likes."
Director Bi recalled what Song Xiaowei had just said about someone waiting downstairs for her. He immediately walked to the window and looked down.
Seeing this, the others also went to look.
Song Xiaowei came out of the elevator and jogged out of the station building.
At the side of the road, she immediately spotted Xu Yun’s Bentley.
She hurried to the passenger-side door and tapped on the window.
Xu Yun, who had been quietly enjoying some music, turned to see it was Song Xiaowei. He immediately unlocked the doors, and she got in.
Xu Yun smiled and asked, "How did you get down here so fast?"
"I was afraid you’d be waiting long."
Song Xiaowei said happily, "When did you get here? You weren’t sitting in the car listening to my show the whole time, were you?"
"No, I just got here a little while ago myself."
Xu Yun replied, "I saw you weren’t off yet, so I tuned in. I happened to catch the interactive segment, so I tried calling the hotline. I got lucky, and the call went through right away."
"So you decided to tease me and make me call you ’hubby’?"
"You sounded pretty happy saying it."
Xu Yun chuckled. "Alright, let’s go. What do you want to eat?"
"Anything’s fine with me. You decide."
"Alright then. Let’s go eat chicken."
"..." Song Xiaowei was speechless.
Upstairs, everyone saw Song Xiaowei get into a car, which then drove away.
They were too far away to see the car’s make and model clearly.
Someone said, "That must be her boyfriend picking her up, right?"
"Hey, you guys think the guy who called the hotline earlier could be Xiaosong’s boyfriend?"
Someone analyzed, "He was waiting downstairs for his girlfriend to get off work. It can’t be that much of a coincidence, can it?"
"It might actually be him. The moment she heard his voice, she had me check the hotline number for her."
"No wonder she didn’t mind. So it really was her husband who called in."
"Wow, that’s so romantic."
Someone said with envy, "If I were Xiaosong, I’d be moved to tears."
"If you have nothing better to do, then go home early."
Standing to the side, Director Bi’s expression suddenly turned cold. He turned and said, "From now on, during work hours, don’t let irrelevant calls like that get through. This is a place of work, not a place for flirting.
"Block that number later. Don’t let him call in again!
"Hmph. And this Xiaosong... she’s completely unprofessional. How can she be a proper host?"
After saying his piece, he turned and left in a huff.
Everyone: "..."
’You were just praising her a minute ago, but now that you know she has a boyfriend, you’re upset?’
Some of the senior staff knew Director Bi’s usual antics all too well.
Whenever a new employee joined the station, if she was a pretty woman, he’d always try to take a bite.
’He’s probably set his sights on Xiaosong this time.’
Although everyone was unhappy with him, there was nothing they could do. Rank holds all the power. If you wanted to escape his harassment, you had to get transferred out of the radio department.
But being assigned to the radio department right away as a newcomer basically meant you had no connections. Getting transferred to a better position was extremely difficult.
In the past, a few who couldn’t take it anymore, unable to bear Director Bi’s harassment and the way he made things difficult for them, had quit on their own.
